- "Initial file on O'Carroll, Declan classifies individual as high-level energy user with thermal and geological affinities. File has been redacted and subclassified black level. Penetration of Oracle network is incomplete."
- ―ANVIL to Declan O'Carroll and Chris Gordon[src]
Declan O'Carroll born Declan Irwin, of the Irish coven Irwin, is a witch/warlock that first appeared in the Fallen Stars novel. He is a sophomore at College Arcane, a computer science major, creator of the Wytchwar Games, and a teammate/friend to Chris Gordon and Tatiana Demidova.
Background[]
Biography/History[]
Declan is very unique. Male witches are generally less powerful than women, but he outclasses them all as the most powerful witch on Earth. At his introduction, he was able to use three elements (Earth, Fire, and some Air), which was widely unheard of. As of the book Summer Reign, he has an affinity for all four. Declan has also learned how to communicate with the elemental spirits that exist on Earth and Fairie, and from time to time he is able to call on them to strengthen his spells.
Early Life[]
Declan is a product of rape when his mother and aunt were raped by two Croatian male witches. Ashling O'Carroll was able to fend off both rapists and the Irwin sisters went into hiding. Years later, Maeve was killed mysteriously in Boston at the instigation of Matcha Irwin, his mothers rival in Ireland. The actual killing blow was dealt by a Croatian death witch working with Matcha.
Declan was kidnapped as a child, and managed to kill his kidnapper with his unique ability with electricity, though his hands were bound behind his back at the time. He looks upon this as one of his formative experiences.
Appearance[]
- "Spec ops warriors are usually lean, Stacia, built for stamina and agility, not powerlifting."
- ―Stacia's father to Stacia Reynolds[src]
Declan has wavy brown hair, blue eyes, and is fairly tall (6'2" or so) for his demographic.
While somewhat teen lanky, (think Timothée Chalamet), training with Chris and Tanya has enabled him to mature into his body with greater strength and definition.
He prefers to dress Vermont comfortable, though he will dress for however the situation demands.
Known Family[]
The Irish side of Declan's family uses runes to shape their spells. They also have the family "recipe" to borrow and use/convert enormous amounts of Magical Power.
- Ashling O'Carroll/Ashling Irwin (aunt)
- Maeve O'Carroll/Maeve Irwin (mother/deceased)
- Darci (step-aunt)
- Perun (father)
- Zuzanna (half-sister)
- Roswitha Maier (ancient paternal ancestor)
- Macha Banfill (deadly rival to Maeve and Ashling)
- Levi Guildersleeve (Declan's martial arts instructor, friend, and strong male figure growing up)
Knowledge & Skills[]
- Linked array, double-grounded spherical containment ward: A unique name for when Declan wards a computer system in a building or a bunch of different things in the building and links them up to the building and even the electrical grid. These wards are stronger than the sympathetic coordinated relation wards that he could cast on several objects that would then be laid out in a prescribed pattern.
- Sympathetic coordinated relation wards: The faraway wards he can cast on objects from satellite locations on tiles and other items from the location in question. The objects must be placed as directed to be effective.
- Anglo-Saxon runes: Declan's Irish family uses these runes (to include Elder Futhark runic language) to form and direct spells.
- Programming Skills: He can write a program in runic that reaches out into the physical world and actually effect change without wi-fi, Bluetooth, servos, or any physical connection at all.
- Elemental Energy Conversion: Declan learned from the Book of Darkest Sorrows how to convert energy from one element into that of another, which he has used to obtain power even when he is cut off from his original elemental affinities.
Personality & Traits[]
His maturity and command of his powers along with being quite modest about his great strength impresses even the old vampires. Declan is intensely loyal and has a temper which he handles by considering the consequences of his actions before committing to them, which was impressed on him by his aunt and mother when he was a child.
Names[]
- Most powerful warlock on the planet.
- Middle Realm Holder on planet of Fairie.
